I blame Perry Mason. Just over a year ago a new television channel appeared in the Twin Cities, MeTV, a lot of their programming is from the 60's. I was hooked, watching Batman, The Fugitive, Peter Gunn, Lost in Space and The Twilight Zone. Images from these shows really tapped into my childhood in an almost unsettling way. One day I just had to paint Adam West as Batman, followed by Raymond Burr. Then I decided to mix in the character actors that kept popping up, Charles Lane the eternal crank, Mike Mazurki the tough guy, and the quick witted Eve Arden. I have no idea what the goal is with this project but I've found that doing one thing leads to another and as continue to create these the project will evolve. For now I'm picturing an exhibition of 100 of these faces all on one huge wall. Keep up with my progress at this blog.

Adam West 24x24 Oil

This is where it started, I just wanted to paint Adam West as Batman. I have very early memories of this being on in primetime on ABC, I would have been 4-6 years old during at that time and I can remember being frightened by Frank Gorshin as the Riddler.

Adam West (1928)
He achieved fame in 1966 in his signature role on the wildly popular ABC-TV series "Batman". Although he has over 60 movie and over 80 TV guest appearance credits, "Batman" is what the fans remember him for. The series, which lasted three seasons, made him internationally famous.
